How does it work?
It's simple...
The heart of the system is a microprocessor that memorises any speed chosen by the driver and by regulating a throttle actuator, enables the vehicle to be maintained at that constant speed.
This means that once a speed has been programmed by touching the SET button, your foot can be taken away from the accelerator pedal. Whether up or down hill, Cruise Control will adjust the throttle and hold the vehicle to the desired speed.
For safety reasons, a Cruise Control does not operate at low speeds (normally under 30km/h). It can be switched on or off at will and is immediately and automatically disconnected by pressing the brake pedal or, manual vehicles, by changing gear.
Touching the RESUME button will cause the vehicle to accelerate until it has reached the last set speed.
The throttle actuator operates by vacuum whereby a signal from the microprocessor will cause the vacuum-servo to "inhale" and thus, to open the throttle and allow the vehicle to accelerate. Conversely a signal to decelerate will cause the vacuum-servo to "exhale" and thereby reduce power to the engine.
The Cruise Control system will help prevent accidental speeding. Because it opens and closes the throttle on a gentle vacuum principle, avoiding abrupt movements, it can also help with reducing fuel consumption.
